Saucony Sneakers

Probably the most advanced running shoes in the world

Saucony is an apparel company that manufactures some the most advanced running sneakers in the world. Their philosophy is to enhance every aspect of running and to inspire more people to start running as a hobby.

As they state on their official site, “At Saucony, a good day is when we get to run. A great day is when we inspire someone else to run.”

The first Saucony sneakers were manufactured as early as 1906 when the company opened their first factory near the Saucony. In 1910, a Russian immigrant, Abraham Hyde, opened a rival shoe company in the area and in 1960 he acquired Saucony altogether and moved the headquarters to Cambridge, under the name Hyde Athletic Industries, Inc. They switched the name to Saucony in 1998.

Combining both companies’ experience in manufacturing children’s shoes, adult functional shoes, baseball and bowling shoes, roller boots and even space boots used by the first American astronauts, Saucony started manufacturing running sneakers.

They remained a little more obscure and only known among a select group of dedicated athletes until 1977 when an influential US magazine at the time awarded Saucony with the award for “Best Quality”.

Over the years, it developed a reputation for high quality athletic apparel, and Saucony sneakers have received many awards, including the Runner’s World magazine “Editor’s Choice” award.

Saucony has introduced numerous innovations in the shoe manufacturing industry, such as the Instep, the first technical walking shoe, the Jazz, one of the most advanced technical performance running sneaker of its time and the Trainer 80, the first slip-lasted running shoe in the world.

The Jazz is the most popular sneaker manufactured by Saucony and it is the main piece in the Saucony Originals Collection. The Saucony Hurricane is another popular shoe in their collection.

Involvement in the sport world

Throughout its history, the company has sponsored athletes in numerous running sports, some of which became champions. Such is the case of the marathon winners Rod Dixon and Lisa Larsen Weidenbach, Ironman champions Greg Welch and Heather Fuhr and Paul McMullen, ranked #1 at 1500 meters by Track & Field News.

These days, athletes no longer want to know  about all the technologies behind their shoes. They just want to run in them. Technologies like ProGrid™, Flexion Plate™, Arch Lock™ help them do just that and achieve high performance.

Saucony sneakers are some of the most advanced in the world or running shoes and you should definitely consider them if you’re an athlete or you want to take up running as a hobby.
