Onitsuka Tiger Gantrai

Onitsuka Tiger Gantrai is a mountain climbing shoe first released in 1977 to meet the need of the adventurous and outdoor-like clients.

The shoe was developed with the help of Mr. Shigehiro, one of the most notorious Japanese mountain climbers of the day. He was concerned with the way the climbers who also wanted to look good while hanging from a rope over a 500 feet drop would pick regular trainers instead of special climbing shoes.

So he had the idea of creating a shoe that would do both: look great AND keep the climber safe. He approached Onitsuka Tiger and they immediately launched their cooperation.

The Onitsuka Tiger Gantrai sneaker was born from this collaboration. Mr. Shigehiro took the sole from an Asics performance baseball shoe and the upper from a regular trainer and created this hybrid that would be the shoe of choice for fashion conscious climbers for over three decades.

The shoe is usually made with polyester and synthetic upper, synthetic and fabric lining and a performance rubber sole.

I personally am looking forward to buying a pair of these because I love climbing and hiking… Now, I don’t really get a chance to climb a mountain everyday, but it’s good to have your equipment ready for any opportunity.

I love these sneakers! I’m buying a pair one of these days.
