New Balance is a footwear manufacturing company founded in 1906 in Boston by William Riley.
Originally creating only orthopedic shoes, due to requests from athletes, the company turned into producing custom made running sneakers.
In 1956, New Balance was purchased by Paul Kidd who increased the show making sector as the demand grew. Production of running sneakers soon became the company's primary source of business.
The New Balance "Trackster”, one of the first running shoes ever made, grew very popular not only because of its technical innovation, but because it was available in a wide range of widths.
Jim Davis purchased New balance in 1972, and he is still the chairman. Four years later, the New Balance 320 sneaker was rated number one on the market, which launched the company into worldwide prominence.
New Balance sneakers were only the beginning. The range of products the company offers has diversified, offering apparel and accessories for a variety of athletic activities.
After several acquires made over the years, the company‘s family of brands includes New Balance, Dunham, PF Flyers, Aravon and Warrior Lacrosse.
