Lanvin Sneakers

Lanvin is one of the oldest fashion houses in France. It was founded by Jeanne-Marie Lanvin back in 1889, and was soon recognized for the wonderful costumes she made for little girls. She was known for her numerous mother and daughter outfits, which helped her do business with some of the most prestigious families in Europe at the time.

The fashion house has experimented with all sorts of luxury products over its long history, but only recently did they begin designing sneakers.  I’ve been looking at their models recently and I’ve got to say that they do look great! The snake print canvas model, for instance, is just awesome…

Lanvin SneakersI noticed that pretty much all their models have grosgrain laces. What’s up with that? Not that they look bad, but come on, a little diversity please!

While they do offer sneakers for men too, Lanvin is basically a brand that addresses women. As their head designer Alber Elbaz said, “It’s about a woman, a desire, a need”.

The sudden boost in popularity of the Lanvin sneakers

The brand Lanvin took a huge popularity boost back in May 2009 when Michelle Obama was seen wearing a pair of suede sneakers at a volunteering event in Washington DC. It seems that she bought her pair from Ikram, an exclusive store in Chicago where she usually buys her stuff.

Some have criticized her for showing up in an expensive pair of shoes at an event dedicated to helping poor people. They claimed that she was basically rubbing it in their face, but I doubt she even thought about her shoes that day…  She just happened to pick them up that morning, that’s all.

But it did wonders for Lanvin, otherwise.  I bet you didn’t even knew that this brand existed before, let alone that they even produces sneakers.

All the models I’ve seen range in price from 400 to about 700 dollars… Pretty expensive if you ask me… Not even Bape is that greedy. But hey, if you treasure exclusivity, this would be a great choice… not many people are willing to drop that kind of cash on a pair of sneakers.

Anyway, I really love their canvas model, with its super cool snake print and grosgrain laces. It has that aggressive top, but thanks to the thin sole, it gets a nice girly appearance overall. They have more cool prints, like that of a python’s skin or a leopard. Niiiice!
