First time I heard about KangaROOS sneakers, I thought it was some Australian running shoe manufacturer that was so successful that it got known worldwide. Well, huge was my surprise when I discovered that it has nothing to do with Australia. They don’t even have a store down there.

KangaROOS Sneakers

KangaROOS are running sneakers manufactured in the good ol’ America. They’re advertised as “The Original Shoes with Pockets” and for a very good reason: back in 1979, architect Bob Gamm, an avid jogger, kept running into the same problem: whenever out to do his daily track, he didn’t have a place to keep his house keys and a few dollars, just in case.

So he set out so solve his issue by designing a pair of sneakers with pockets for these sorts of things. He came up with a really good shoe and, since the 70s was the decade that jogging swept the nation, he founded KangaROOS to sell them to all joggers who had the same problem.

In the 80, KangaROOS sneakers were endorsed by professional athletes, such as Walter Payton, Clyde Drexler and Ozzie Smith and gained momentum. With a successful marketing, the brand grew and could improve the firm’s technology. One such technology was Dynacoil which was developed in collaboration with NASA and was incorporated by numerous sneakers manufacturers throughout the world.

In the 90s the ROOS took over Europe and expanded the number of products to a complete apparel lineup.

For their 30th anniversary, KangaROOS launched a Walter Payton Limited Edition Collection which features design elements that remind of the shoes that Walter “Sweetness” Payton endorsed back in the 80s.

When you think of Vans, your absolute first thought is the classic Slip-On, the most iconic shoe they make. If there were a list of unbelievably cool shoes that were launched throughout the years, the Slip-On would certainly be in the top five, alongside Chuck Taylor Converse and Air Jordan One.

The shoe was released back in the 70s, a couple of years after the other major model, the Vans Era. It immediately became the must-have shoe for all skateboarders and BMX riders in Southern California and from there, they spread all over the United States.

The Slip-On got a huge amount of international attention after the 1982 “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” movie in which Sean Penn’s character was wearing them.

Vans Slip On Sneakers

Well, a year after the movie, Vans kind of went bankrupt and the fun was over. Lol, how’s that for publicity.. it’s not that the Era and the Slip-On weren’t very successful, but the company had a bunch of others that weren’t as good and they were draining the resources.

Vans was saved and in 2004, they opened the Customs section on their website where you could get your very own drawing printed on a pair of slip-ons and delivered to your door in a matter of days.

I was watching Slipknot’s “Before I forget” music video the other day, which was filmed just around the time of the reissue. Guess what Corey was wearing? You’re right! In the classic black and white. Awesome!

I love these shoes. Just thinking, here’s the perfect outfit: A pair of Slip-On shoes, some tight black jeans, a white t shirt and cool leather jacket! Badass! Perfect for bad boy attitude.

Ok, so it may not work for everybody, but I’m sure you can think of some other interesting ways to create the perfect outfit.

So, after everything that’s been said, the Vans Slip-On sneakers are the ones to get, if you were ever in a doubt. Have fun and enjoy!

Following the increase in the number of European players that joined NBA teams in the last few years, the interest in basketball has increased on the continent. In order to capitalize on this, NBA and Adidas, the official sponsor have announced an agreement that grants the sports giant world wide rights to market NBA apparel.

According to the vice president of Adidas basketball, Lawrence Norman, they’ve got plans to aggressively promote thee items in eastern Europe, Russia and Middle East. In these countries, basketball has increased in popularity and kids there want to emulate their heroes. Such is the case in turkey where players such as Hedo Turkoglu are extremely popular, even more than Michael Jordan.

The deal tries to also capitalize of the fact that Europe will be the focus in the world of basketball in the next 4-5 years, with the FIBA world basketball championships that will be staged in Turkey in 2010 and Spain in 2014, the London Olympics that will be held in 2012, and the European championships that will take place in 2011 and 2013.

Vans launched this March a new sneaker design contest called “Vans Custom Culture”, aimed at US high school kids. One of the goals if the program is to grow the awareness or high school art programs, especially now when the budgets or art are shrinking so much, and also inspire emerging talents.

The contest will culminate with a free trip to Los Angeles with all expenses covered for artists coming from four of the participating schools, where they will participate in an art showcase.

The registration started in March 1 and the participants receive four pairs of Vans sneakers on which to display their artistic talent. Besides the expo in Los Angeles, all designs will be made public in an online gallery. The winners will receive a generous amount of Vans products and also a 10000$ donation for their school’s art budget.

You can find more info about it at vans.com/customculture.

This spring’s collection includes T-shirts, shorts, trucker hats and even a wallet, but the centerpiece is the Limited Edition Suicidal Tendencies Sk8-Hi top sneaker which features drawings inspired by the bands albums artwork.

Vans Suicidal Tendencies Sk8-Hi Sneakers

Suicidal Tendencies was formed in Venice, Southern California, nearly thirty years ago and gathered a huge following among punkers and skaters with sounds like “Institutionalized” and “You Can’t Bring Me Down“.

They were a major contributor to the creation of skate punk genre, before the band changed its focus to thrash metal.

Vans homage for the band also includes a limited edition Era sneaker, which features a big skeleton face on the insole and the band’s logo across the heel, over a surprising light blue canvas.

The latest addition to the orthopedic shoe market is the new Reebok EasyTone Sneaker line for women. It was launched to tap the niche that New Balance and Swiss Masai already dominate for years.

But unlike the competition, they don’t have that .. lets say ‘unesthetic’ sole, but rather they are actually decent to look at. If you don’t count the overly rounded back side of the sole, they’re not bad at all.

Reebok EasyTone Sneakers

Much like the competition, Reebok claims that the EasyTone sneakers will help you add definition to your legs and butt, while doing your regular everyday stuff, like going shopping or walking the dog. Hmm..

The shoe works by creating a slight instability with the two balance pods centered on the heel and forefoot, which forces your muscles to work a little harder. Apparently this creates the effect of walking on sand. I like the beach and the sand. It’s awesome! Being in the city and still feeling like on holiday! You can’t beat that!

The Easytone collection includes six different items: the Easytone Flip Flops and the Easytone Go Outside, Go Outside Wide, Inspire, Rush and Smoothfit Sunsaa sneakers.

So now with this new option in the market, you can’t go wrong choosing a good orthopedic shoe. Take a look here to flip through a few EasyTone products.

However, the fact remains that any kind of exercise will result in increased muscle workout and fat loss. So why not start doing an intensive exercise that will do that and more with just a little more of your time. You can start with jogging for instance. In this case, you can go choose a good pair of running sneakers right here.

However, the fact remains that any kind of exercise will result in increased muscle workout and fat loss. So why not start doing an intensive exercise that will do that and more with just a little more of your time. You can start with jogging for instance. In this case, you can go choose a good pair of running sneakers right here.

Just browsing the net the other day, I ran into this piece of news that really made my day. Looks like Snoop Dogg joined the dark side of the force and made it into a parade with Darth Vader through midtown Manhattan to promote the launch of the new Adidas Originals Star Wars collection.

Snoop Dogg and Darth Vader

He left with Vader from the 34th Street towards Times Square, together with an army of star troopers. You can imagine the scene and the astonishment of those who were there at the time.

They hit the Time Square Foot Locker store where fans have been waiting the whole morning. Snoop, at the head of the star trooper army, presented a new orange sneaker, the centerpiece of the whole collecton, with the help of R2-D2.

Here’s a video of the thing captured by the guys at Techland:

While I do understand the importance of the partnership between Adidas and Star Wars, I’ve yet to figure out what Snoop has to do with the whole thing. I’m not saying it’s bad, but knowing a thing or two about marketing, I still think that Star Wars fans aren’t exactly the core of Snoop’s fan base.

But besides that, I’m sure it must have been quite a show. You don’t see star troopers walking down the street everyday and you certainly don’t expect them to be headed by Snoop Dogg. This new line could be something interesting.

Anyway, here’s the Adidas promo video for the launch of the Star Wars Originals collection, featuring Darth Vader, David Beckham and Snoop:

If you’re a common visitor of A1-Senakers.com, you sure have noticed the drastic changed to the appearance that I’ve brought within the first days of 2010. That’s because I just moved all the old static html pages into a fresh and dynamic WordPress blog.

It really was time for a change. The site’s been running with the same template since 2005, when I was still a young beginner in the whole world of website building. Back then, html was a huge mystery and I was thankful I found a decent template. I managed to customize the hell out of it, but all in all, it pretty much sucked.

I first decided to experiment with blogs in 2006, with another site of mine. The result wasn’t what I expected and I kept using the time proven html pages that have worked for me so well. I added a blog to A1-Sneakers in 2008 and it got some attention, although I didn’t focus on it.

However, in the last couple of months, I started reading more of Rosalind Gardner’s stuff and blogging all of sudden became much more interesting. With all the plugins out there, I can now do pretty much anything I can think of.

So, in December last year, I rolled up my sleeves and started working. All the old pages are now database driven and the layout is a lot more clean and friendly. I merged the main site with the blog and now they are both under the same interface.

There’s still work to do, but so far I think I done a pretty good job. (Or did I?) Drop a comment in here and let me know what you think.

Slip on sneakers have been gaining in popularity during recent years. The casual look is in, and lucky for us, it looks like it’s here to stay for a while.

Better to be comfortable than the opposite, right? Thanks to this trend, a bunch of different options have emerged and you’ve probably come across many of them in shoe stores.

Anyway, I wanted to briefly discuss three different pairs of slip ons that might appeal to you. Each of these caters to a different style, so hopefully one of these hits home and appeals to you.

The first one I’ll mention is the Simple Men’s Toega slip on. This is perfect for those with the environment in mind. Not only does this shoe have a very earthy look and feel, but it’s made from entirely organic and natural materials, winning it bonus points in these circles. These are really affordable as well. It’s not at all uncommon to find them offered for sale for $40 or less.

The second slip on sneaker that makes the list is a shoe made by Nike. Not only is it athletic in nature, but it packs in some extra appeal in the style department. The Nike “Glide Leather U” sells for just $60, and the signature swoosh looks gorgeous on it.

Lastly, there’s the one that started it all. The Vans classic slip on shoe has been a staple for well over a decade now. What originally started out as a simple sneaker has morphed into a classic, and there are many different styles available if this particular shoe interests you.

From the classic black to a canvas look, to checkerboard patterns and more, there’s just about any possible color combo or pattern that you could want.
