Emerica Sneakers

Emerica Sneakers

In the world of skateboarding, there are a bunch of companies competing to get your attention and trying to get you to buy their sneakers. Some of them are great and a few really kick ass!

Truth is, I’m pretty sure Emerica isn’t one of them. Really.

I haven’t worn any pair of Emerica sneakers so far, so I am talking pretty much out of my ass. But really, just looking at some of their models, there’s really nothing that catches your eyes. They’ve got the same old design that 99932 other skateboarding shoes have.

Of course, that design is great. It’s a classic. In that respect, they’re doing a great job. But it begs the question: “Why go for Emerica, and not some regular ol’ Vans?”

Emerica SneakersI’ve absolutely no idea. There’s nothing on the shoe itself that will make me do it.

(Ok, the shoe in the picture above is pretty neat, but even so, that won’t make me turn down a perfectly good pair of Etnies for instance)

And price wise, that’s even more incredible. While you can get a decent pair of Vans between 30 and 50 bucks, Emerica starts from 40 and goes up all the way to 70… For an equivalent shoe!

Hell of a treat!

Who’s doing all that?

The company that owns the brand is Sole Technologies, the same one that owns Etnies. While they do a great  job with Etnies, I can’t imagine what’s in their head when it comes to the one we’re talking about here.

I don’t really know why Sole Technologies are doing all this stuff, with two distinct brands selling basically the same stuff. Wouldn’t it have been better having just one powerful brand to take care of?

Look at Vans and DC Shoes. They’ve each got only one brand under their roof and they’re doing pretty good. They are selling skate shoes, but bikers, snowboarders and just about anybody else is buying them.

Or maybe they’re trying to kill this brand altogether? Now that would be something. But they had 15 years to do it, so that can’t be it.

I guess we’ll never know.

What I know for sure is that you’ll be better off going for vans and DC shoes if you want a great pair of skate shoes. But if you are really sure you want Emerica sneakers, this is a great place to get them.
