Bones Brigade: An Autobiography by Vans

Bones Brigade

The video comes with a kick ass cover that will blow your mind

Skating has gone a long way since its humble beginnings a couple of decades ago. Not long ago, having a bunch of kids skating around town every hour of the day was unimaginable, but these days it’s part of the urban landscape.

You can’t find your way around town without hearing the sound of skateboards in the background.

And that’s all thanks to a couple of pioneers who started young and made skateboarding their career. They all began as unknown kids doing their thing for fun when they caught the eyes of certain brands, mainly Vans, which were trying to make their way into this new scene.

Vans has recently put together a documentary covering those early days. It’s called “Bones Brigade: An Autobiography” and it features the stories of their first generation of athletes, backed by shitloads of early shots of them doing their tricks.

It was funny listening to the trailer to hear that…

“the guys used to spit on Tony back in the day”

Haha, I almost shit my pants laughing. Well, he went on to become the best known figure in skating, and I bet that the guys making fun of him bit their tongues.

I don’t know about the whole video, but the trailer does paint a rather emotional, almost dramatic image. Seems to me they exaggerated a bit, much like those Hollywood teenager movies. It’s fucking skating, not the Olympics.

Here’s the thing:

The Bones Brigade Trivia Show

If you check out the page on Vans’ website, you’ll also find a kick ass video by ‘KRAT TV’ (awesome 🙂 ) with the best fake show on Earth, the  “Bones Brigade Trivia Show”, hosted by Stink Fartdale, where they got a skater kid, Curren Caples, to answer their well thought questions. “How tight were those shorts?“ was a classic.

Bones Brigade Merchandise

As with any cool release, Vans has put together a couple of T-Shirts, caps and a Ski8-Hi Reissue to commemorate the event. They’re not particularly mind blowing, but they do make you want them in your collection.
