Nike, Adidas Wins $38 Million On Counterfeit Sales

Saturday, March 11, 2006

U.S. District Court magistrate in New York has awarded Nike and Adidas-Salomon AG a total of $38 million in damages and fees stemming from sales of counterfeit shirts, sweatshirts, golf balls and other products bearing the sporting goods companies' names.

The judgment, entered on Feb. 27, names two groups of defendants that must pay Nike a total of $16 million and Adidas a total of $22 million.

The first group of defendants included MHK Products Inc., Transfund Capital LLC and individual Jay Enis. The second group included Rosson Sport Inc., Top Brand Co., Global Surplus Inc. and individuals Vincent Militano and Hanoch Rosner.

Both groups were found to have manufactured, imported, distributed and sold the counterfeit goods. The goods were discovered being sold at U.S. retailers and on the Internet, according to Nike.

The ruling resolves a case first filed in 2000.
